It has become the norm to put on your television or go on the internet and hear about bombings and killings happening all around the world. Here in Nigeria, we are still looking for girls abducted my terrorists more than a year ago, several European countries, have also experienced shocking bombings that till today still leaves the world in shock. Another shocking act of violence is gun violence and mass shooting by deluded individuals for reasons that vary from religious radicalism to depression, insanity among all other bizarre reasons. The recent shooting and mass murder in a gay club in Orlando by a lone gun man has been called the worst mass shooting yet.
I generally do not indulge in religious or theological arguments, that’s for learned theologians and the rest but here’s what I want to talk about, people who think that the 50 people who were killed and the other 53 that were injured deserved it because they were gay. Why is it okay that we think someone deserves to die because they do not measure up to our own moral standard, ethics and principle? Somewhere there is a child, Mother, Father, Sister, Brother or relation hurting because they just lost a loved one to a senseless act of violence. For the families of the victims, tragedy is a unifying force because regardless of their religious beliefs or whether they supported the gay lifestyle of their loved one or not, it doesn’t matter anymore, they do not have them to love, fight or argue with anymore. Loss is not something anyone can claim to have all the answers about, it is not something you truly get over, you just learn to live with.
To my fellow Christians who believe that they were deserving of this gruesome death, get of your high horse for a minute lets us remember who God is and the most important commandment he gave us. His greatest commandment is LOVE, where then is the love we profess when we put each other down instead of showing to a hurting world who believes there is no God who he truly is?
“LOVE IS patient, LOVE IS kind, LOVE IS not proud, LOVE DOES NOT DELIGHT IN EVIL…”
“Whoever does not LOVE DOES NOT KNOW GOD, FOR GOD IS LOVE.”
To everyone who has lost a loved one, no matter the way they died, death never makes sense but love does so I pray you experience LOVE.
