I had been thinking about what my blog post will be and could not really come up with anything hence the reason why I did not post yesterday, apologies to my avid readers. I have been so busy and caught up with so much so I decided to take time off, rest and surf the internet then I came across a very intriguing story while on Instagram on a handle called “Unfiltered stories”.
The story is about a girl the daughter of a pastor who becomes pregnant out of wedlock. Just imagine the shame, judgments and challenges she must have gone through but she decided to have the baby. After the baby is born, life continues and she is ready to move on and make something of herself but 10 years later, she is pregnant with the second child and alone again just like the first time. This time her parents throw her out penniless and want nothing to do with her, they could not stand the shame a second time. She said she went through hell and even became suicidal.
Once again, I imagine the judgmental stares, glares, pokes and whispers ending with “it is well”. I imagine that some of her friends and family abandon her for fear of being labeled by her “sin”, I imagine her son being the brunt of cruel jokes and insults at home and school and maybe he pities or blames his mother for it. When she got to a point where she thought she could take no more, she decided she would have an abortion but a timely message she sent to her pastor’s wife saved her and her baby’s life. Few years later, she is thankful she never went through with the abortion or gave in to the pressure and shame and she is grateful for her life and her 2 kids. Some people could read her story and based on their perceptions see different things but all I could see was her “COURAGE”.
Sometimes courage is you damning the consequences and everyone to do what you know in your gut is right. It is learning to love and live again despite painful heartbreaks and hurtful people. It is defying peer and societal pressure to stand out and be all that God made you to be. Courage is not only facing your fears, it is to keep going when things are tough and it is knowing when to stop when things are tough. It is refusing to please someone because you would rather please God; it is the person that decided to go back to school even though his mates are working. It is the little things that speak volumes; it is the strength to keep going when people say you can’t or won’t and you should give up. It could be hard but remember even the bible says;
“Be strong and courageous….be strong and very courageous”
